i have a 1993 940 turbo wagon.

the car ran great on my drive home from work. when i started it to go to the airport, it started acting up. when i put the car in gear it seems like it misfires. the revs drop then climb rather frequently. if the car sits and idles in nuetral or in park it is just fine. eventually it will go waway then i drive it a little bit. as soon as the engine load gets anymore than 50% throttle it missifires revs don't climb or anything.

i thought it was the transmission at first but when i put the car in nuetral and rev it hard, it will missfire. no smoking or anything, it has gone through some water recently, but i think it is leaking. i was thinking it was something in the ignition system. has anyone else encountered this problem? i would have thought that something like this wouldn't be so sudden, work fine 20 minutes before then go bad? bad sensor maybe? blew out a plug? i have no idea.. help..

i replaced teh plugs and wires with OEM, gapped properly, and the car ran great.

this lasted for about 70-100 miles when it started doing the same thing again.

i did notice that i am losing some water(not much but some), no smoke no weird smells, plugs looked pretty good when i pulled them out. anyone have any insight at all?

It could be the Distributor cap and or rotor too.It wont hurt to do a compression test on the engine. How many miles on the car ?

check the mass air flow sensor. it might be clogged or blocked.

Same thing happened to my car.... I couldn't figure out what it was for ages! First start by checking for loose connections to your coils thats all mine was and if that doesn't work buy a new coil or 2 and keep switching them out until you find the bad one(s), I almost guarentee it's one of yoru coil packs!

i thought it might be the coil, i didn't replace it though

the car has 175,xxx miles on it

the motor has 50,000 on it. the compression is ok

i let the car sit for a little while and it worked again, i am thinking the cap and rotor might have gotten some oil on it, it could be the coil.

the loss of coolant is from the water pump i found out, it's got a little leak. i will clean all the connections and the cap and see what happens.

the valve cover seal has seen better days, it's getting some oil around it i figure some might have gotten into the distributer - thanks all for the input

the MAF is good, it looks like new. i unplugged it - it ironically idled better but when i stepped on the gas it just died, i am 90% sure it's not the maf. the tube to the flame trap came loose, i figure that could cause a super rich condition, which would contribute to the missfire.

well i fixed it and its ran fine for 100 miles so far..

i replaced teh cap and rotor and while i was at it i put a new coil in it.

i got a pretty good deal on all the parts so i figured there wasn't much to lose.

the cap and rotor were pretty well coated in oil and the coil was super dirty as well.. i am sure it was a combination of a lot of really old ignition components. car runs like a champ too!
