For all you S60 R owners, i'm thinking about getting an s60 R but first i want to ask you guys/girls how well of a car is it??? the most important part is how smooth of a ride does it have. i own subaru STI so i know what type of power a car can handle but i want to know how smooth it might be compared to my car. b/c if it's that much of a change i would like to know. thanks

Apples and oranges. I've driven an STi and it's no luxury car, it does what it does very well, but I wouldn't take it on a cross coutry trip. The S60R, I would. Just a note, it won't be as brutal as some STi's I know, the power is more fluid instead of a big blast when the turbos on boil, understand? Other that that, it is a great car to move up to. Hope it helps.

Hey STi guy,

I just bought my first Volvo about 2 weeks ago. I bought a 2002 S60 T5.

It is the opitomy of Euro luxury. And it hauls ****. This model has the 5 cylinder with the turbo. But it also is equiped with an air to air cooler from the factory.

The ride is firm, mine probably more so, I wrapped the wheels in BF. Goodrich G-force radials that are Z-rated.

The leather seats are great, good adjustment, great for road trips and the factory audio is surprising. Now if I can find a way to buy an iMIV box to hook the IPOD it will be the balls.

S60Rs have a really soft ride. They suffer from a bit of roll but not too bad. As much as I am not a fan of the S60, it is leaps and bounce better in terms of finish than a STI

It will be night and day. Most STi owners get those really firm suspension upgrades and they just crash at every highway joist. You can't be it on super smooth pavement, but in NY, they are kind of hard to find. With the S60R, I would get one level firmer suspension, maybe some adjustable Konis, and just go with the flow. Just the look of the S60R to the STi gives you an incredible boost when people look at it. Interior, not withstanding, is a serious jump up. Just a little more info for you. But, more important, what did you think when you got in and drove around? What was your first thought? Then you will know if you want to get it.

Why not just take one for a drive? What others love, you might hate.

Personally, I never use comfort except to show people the diff. Its way too luxuryish for me.

The s60R is fitted with four C adjustable suspension that gives with the push of a button different levels of firmness. This is monitored by a SUM (suspension module) so any mods to this cars shocks are not req. You can feel the difference between sport and comfort, it does work.

As much as i considered an sti before buying my S60 R, you got to realize that if it wasn't for video games, the sti may never have made it to the states. Sti's are lightning quick, but they are made of garbage components. the interior is cheap looking. At least with the Volvo, you are getting heated leather and a sunroof...plus i like the fact that not everyone has a R. Im only 25 and i take pride in the fact that i never see kids driving S60 R's. Also, I like the four C chassis, I normally leave the car in SPORT mode, but when the roads get real bad (like the FDR drive in NYC) you can change over to COMFORT mode to ease the bumps. Then there is ADVANCED mode for the windy roads which gives the driver a little more feel for the road.

My gripes with the S0 R:

Who ever designed the radio should be killed, THe steering isnt as responsive as some cars, the turning radius isnt good

Other than that, im very happy with my Volvo, i wanted to get a second one, but obviously due to discontinuation, that wont happen. With a change to snow tires, the car is a beast in bad weather. overall, ide say the volvo is a step up from a Subaru..hope this helps
