Hello everyone, my first post here.

I have a 1995 Turbo 850 Wagon, crimson with black leather interior and the cold weather package. It's been a great car, but not without its problems.

Today what I am puzzling about is the odometer. It stopped working one day when I pushed in the trip odometer. I figure there is a speedo cable input in the back that maybe has come loose. But then again, I could be wrong. The speedometer works, and the digital readout (avg fuel use, miles to 0, outside temp, etc.) still works. So I figured today I could just remove the instrument cluster and get at the back to fix (like a BMW735i I used to own) but after removing a few screws I found it to be more difficult than I thought.

So...am I on the right track here? Or is it electronically controlled and should I be looking elsewhere? If it is in the cluster, has anyone removed one before?

Thanks,

- Dave :)

It sounds like the gear broke or striped for the Odometer.

Hi - this is a known issue w 850's - mine hit 225,000 mile then broke - most don't last that long -

One of the gears in the odometer has lost a tooth.

Here is a great detailed guide on how to fix it -

Do yourself a favor and relace the dash lights while you are in there

Remember to get both of the gears. The one that broke and its partner. From what I have heard, the second doesn't break but hey, the dash is off anyway. have fun.

Plus, the even if the second gear doesnt break, bear in mind that it's XX-years old already. Would you like to do the same thing again next week, just after this one is done, to replace the gear next to the first one?

usually you insert a little screwdriver in the side and pry it gently out. it should just pop out.

hmmm, I see. Just pry it off? Also, this has nothing to do with fixing my odometer, but does anybody know if the 1996 850 GLT's were electronically governed ?

Wow interesting to hear it's a common problem. This is precisely why I joined the forum as my odo stopped working the other day. I just want to know, has anyone fixed there's if they are a bit of an amateur like myself without doing damage to the dash top and secondly what sort of tools do you require?

Cheers guys

Ali.

But i fear i'll be having blue-black marks on my arms and shoulders: pinchmarks by the wife at the back seat.
