Help, I am useless with technical data and am looking for some assitance. I have just bought an S80 D5 and am have seen that you can buy 'tuning chips' for these and other cars. Various manufacturers promise 20/30 % performance increase, reduced running costs, and the proces vary from £ 50 - £ 500.

Can anyone give me some advice on whether these things can actually work, and why the huge cost difference. Better still what products to buy if anyone has personal knowledge of them

Many thanks

Ian

Most tuning "chips" for volvos are in fact reprogrammed ECUs, which is the car's main computer. Boost and fuel timings are often changed, and as such they do work and more power can be made. Many companies make them, as you probably noticed, with different gains and prices. Since you listed price in pounds, i assume you live in the UK

and the basics of this particular companies info

cant recall exactly where, but many similar topics exist in the forums and there are a lot of different companies listed with user feedback.

Hope this helped some

Since you are in Europe, try the Rica tune. I have it on my R here in the US. The whole ecu is sent to them not just a flash upgrade. Depending on the model and year.
