Hi,

I am new to the forum, in fact I found it all of 5 minutes ago (thanks Google)

I have a used 2000 V40 2.0 which I got a few months ago, during the "summer" I noticed that the heater didn't seem to fancy changing from cold to anything else, then one day it randomly just started blowing out hot and I couldn't turn it down, so had to turn the blowers off and open the windows.

Now the weather is turing a chilly I need a bit of warmth and yesterday having driven for about 20 mins fiddling with the temp I gave up and decided to live with cold air, this morning however it decided it would blow hot, but not cold. There is no graduation, it blows either completely cold or very hot with nothing in between and the aircon just amplifies the temperature.

Any simple idea's? I'm not a very handy person (though I know a man who is). Is it likely to be an easy DIY job, or do I have to resign myself to having to pay someone to fix it for me?

I'd appreciate your help.

Arfie

Ditto - new here too with a 2002 V40 2.0T sport!

Just discovered that my heater control has a similar problem - sometimes it's stuck on hot, other times it stays on cold - with the aircon or temperature control knob having no effect.

Occasionally however it works perfectly, and I can dial in any temp I want!

I've searched the forum for anything that might help out, but haven't managed to find a similar problem - any help would be appreciated, cheers!

Tim.

Wow I'd forgot this site existed since I had no other replies in a month.

I have been advised by a mechanic that it's probably worn contacts in the heater switches and he recommended going to the scrapyard and ripping a control panel out of another car and replacing mine.

Cheers Arfie!

Yes, I noticed that you hadn't had any replies - been searching this site for ages to find a similar problem, but no-one seems to have mentioned this particular niggle.

Worn contacts sounds most likely. I've since discovered that if I whack the temp control with the palm of my hand moderately hard it starts working - and pushing against the temp-knob whilst turning seems to get it going again!

Until it suddenly goes cold again.... or hot...

Have you figured out how to get the control panel out? If I have time at the weekend I'm going to try and remove some trim and pull it out - might even be able to spray it with contact cleaner and save trawling round the scrapyards - otherwise I'm sure a new one will fix it.

Keep me posted! Ta!
Tim.
