Good afternoon.

I have a 2006 S40. I'd like to hardwire my Sirius FM modulated radio into it. The FM modulated sirus stinks!! I have a few questions:

1. Can someone point me to exactly where the radio is in the S40 and how I go about getting to it.

2. What parts do I need? I read somewhere that you need "antenna splitter" or something like that. Can't find the information again.

3. Anyone done this and have detailed instructions on how to go about doing it?

Thanks for the help. Hoping to do this this upcoming weekend.

I just went through this on my '04 S80. There is definitely a few quirks to doing this with a Volvo. First of all, I found a web site that walked me through removing the stereo without having to "buy a kit". You can check it out at http://www.carstereohelp.com/strvolvo.htm I don't see anything specific to an S40 on there but I think they are pretty similar so it should work.

Second, you will need to buy two peices to use the FM Out functionality of the Sirius unit. You will definitely want to use this because, as you mentioned, the built-in "over-the-air" FM output is worthless. First, you'll need to buy an FM Direct Adapter to connect the Sirius unit to the stereo. It will cost you about $20. This is what you need: http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/servlet/Ex...=7872&scId=7872

Then, because Volvo likes to be different, you will need a special adapter to connect the FM Direct Adapter to the stereo. Volvo doesn't use the standard antenna connection. I got mine from eBay. Again, you will pay around $20. Here is one on Crutchfield.com: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-b5PxjIO2kCu/A...spx?i=12040VL10

That covers everything that you should have to purchase. The rest is just connecting it all. Mine is all connected and working fine. The only complaint that I have is that the 12v lighter plugs in the volvo are not powered when the key is out of the ignition. I'm trying to figure out how to connect to a constant power source. Other than that, I'm good.

Good luck!!

Have a look at the sticky iPod thread. There are a few of us that have hard-wired FM modulators into the antenna system. There is a lot of info in that thread.

Slopneck....

Not sure if you read these threads every now and then, but I have one quick question for you, or anyone else that may know the answer to this.

I want to use an FM Direct Adapter for my Sirius Radio that I have just installed.

I know I also need the Volvo Antenna Adapters to do so.

The question is, where do I plug the adapters in? Does the S40 stereo component have the actual antenna plugged in the back? I keep reading about the AFM, but is this what I am actually connecting to?

Also, the FM Direct Adapter for Sirius doesn't require a power source, and many posts here are talking about an Ipod using a FM Modulator that needs power.

So, to recap: when installing the FM Direct Adapter, am I doing so behind the stereo, or in the back where the AFM is?

Thanks to anyone who may reply to this.
