I'm looking at getting a 2005 S40 T5 AWD. I have questions about getting new rims for the summer. I want to know the largest size you can put on the car for the following:

a ) Widest 17" rims (how many inches wide)?

b ) Widest 18" rims (how many inches wide)?

c ) Widest tires to put on the above 17" rims?

d ) Widest tires to put on the above 18" rims?

Thank you in advance!

Wouldn't it make sense to contact your local tire shop and ask them since this is their business?

I thought the same at first but they wouldn't know if the tires would rub on the inside of the wheel well or not.

You could try looking at Tire Rack and go to their tire'wheel combo page, and I think they will give you the range of sizes compatible with your car. Or, talk to a hot rod shop, not a regular tire store. Custom builders often build from scratch, so they need to know about wheel offset to know where to place spindles and shock mounts. Plus, those guys usually love talking to people about what they love to do. Tire shop guys usually punch the clock twice a day and aren't that passionate about whgat they do. Not always, but that's been my experience. Sorry about the ramlbing post-Good Luck
