Today my 01 S60's alarm system started blaring by itself, well first time parked outside the office with a security guard right in front of it just went off, I checked doors, trunk and hood... about 5 min later off it goes again... after the 4th time I had to leave it unlocked, so I suspected it was a random electrical gremlin and went home, about 2 hours after parking the car...off it goes again, what could it be? what should I check?

thanks...

Have you tried pressing the button to disable the interior sensors to see if that helps?

Mine rarely goes off but it did the other day - I thought it might be the seat belt retracting after I had locked up the car.

But I would have thought if yours is going off all the time there must be a problem.

well today at the office it went of once after about 30 mins of being parked and it has been 4 hours already and not a peep....

about the dash button mine does not have that option, I looked it up in the owner's manual and mine does not have the sensors, so it should be doors/hood or trunk and they all have been checked a lot of times already!

I have an 02 S60 with similar problem. Alarm goes off randomly. The last time I had my car in for dealer service, it went off unexpectedly on their lot while I was talking to the service writer, and yet they STILL could find no problem. I suppose because they couldn't pull a fault code, they didn't have anything to trace.

I've had this problem for about the last 2 years, and I frustrated at my dealer's inability to diagnose and repair. I'm contemplating asking if they can just turn the siren off, to ease the embarrassment factor, if nothing else. I hate being afraid to lock the car.

Also, I swear there's been 2 occasions where my car has spontaneously locked itself. First time I thought I was just not remembering, but last week I went out to retrieve something from my trunk in my own driveway, and it was locked. I never lock it at home.

Anyone else ever experience such?

souns like the sensors are going. i had a corvette years ago that would do things like that. it turned out to be the sensors were dirty, you know, the little microphone things that sense sound. anyway, i was a heavy smoker and so was the girlfriend and it turned out to be that. that was the last time I ever smoked in a car. just a little more info to really stir things up

Don't know about the alarm, but as for the locking issue, I know if you unlock the car with the keyfob the car will relock after a certain amount of time (30-60 seconds I guess).

I think the car will re-lock after 2 minutes - but that is only if you don't put the key in the ignition.
I think if you put the key in the ignition (not sure if you need to turn it though), it kinda resets the system and if you get out and shut the doors, it won't relock (does that make sense?)

I thought about that, S60R. It was my understanding that the car would re-lock, unless I opened the driver's door. The thing is, since I've been having so much trouble with the random alarm, I NEVER lock the car when I'm home, so as not to disturb the neighbors. Yet, twice now I've found the car locked.

Is is possible that it could be picking up some stray radio signal and interpreting it as a signal from the key fob?

if that was the case, you would be able to drive up and down streets with volvos on them and keep hitting your fob until one opened. i am sure that with cheap alarm systems, that might be the case, but on a mass produced car i would highly doubt it. the liability claims against the manufacturer would be outrageous.

I know mine will relock only if I don't open any door.
