Well...I've searched quite a bit about different injector sizes and corresponding colors and I've found out nothing but the fact that I have 3 injectors installed that are supposed to be (for a 16 valve engine, which I have) and one injector for the 8 valve engine.

I didn't install them...you could consider me kinda stupid if I did...I got it this way.

So my question for someone that knows something is:

Is it ok for me to run my car like this? I assume its not too big of a deal, because the difference between the poundage is pretty small, but the idea that they're not the same is eating at me.

Is it really going to make that much of a difference to replace the one that is odd out, or not? I can imagine it would make the car run a tick better, but I may be wrong.

Anyone got any input for me? 3 injectors are beige and the one is yellow.

Thanks.

Well, the spray pattern will be different for the one that is wrong. Since it is of a different rating, I'd bet it will spray less or more (depending on if it is lower or higher then the rest). The car will run ok, but you can be sure that one cylinder is gonna be a bit leaner or richer then the rest.

If I had to guess, the one injector was bad, and someone took a 8Valve injector and put it in since the 16 Valve one was harder to find, or more expensive. I'd bet that there is a difference in the spray patter so that one would spray onto one intake valve (kinda round) and one would spray wider or oval for the 2 intake valves in a 16Valve motor.

If you can find the right injector and it is cheap enough, I'd get it. Installation is easy and very straightforward (IIRC: two bolts, four clips to come out and a bit of white lithium grease and maybe new O-rings to go back in).

Some cars have 'adaptive memory' which means that the computer will adjust the amount of time that an injector stays open to help compensate for a clogged injector or low fuel pressure (it looks at the O2 sensor to determine if the car is running too lean). I honestly don't know if Volve ECUs do that.

If you do a 'power balance' test, you can get an idea if one cylinder is significantly weaker then the others.

thanks for your input deadken.

I randomly managed to get a correct fuel injector for 5 bucks! Its used...but I'm sure it works perfect. I intend to get all of them pressure cleaned/tested before installing the correct new one.

I was just curious as to whether it would be worth going out of town to get this injector, so I appreciate the input once again.

case closed

Peace.

Not a problem. Glad I could help.

Congrats on getting a replacement and for such a great price! I remember back in 1991 while working at a Dealership we got a fuel injector cleaning machine in. I don't remember anyone ever using it. We all got trained on it though. I should mention that when an injector is cleaned, you want to make sure that the little screen/filter inside the injector is cleaned out. Since they really aren't servicable, the easiest way to do this is to 'reverse flush' the injector with a known clean solution. Be sure whoever you get to clean your injectors has a good reputation and does it pretty frequently. Otherwise, I am afraid the results will be little better then if you did it yourself with a few bottles of 'Techron' (as far as I know Techron (by Chevron) is the ONLY fuel injector cleaner that I know is of extremely high quality).
