I left a notice on the general notice board and also wanted to drop a line to fellow Aussies. We bought a 1986 Volvo 240 GL and it would be great only it stalls consistently. Took it to Precision Automotive in Mascot. He said that basically he would be guessing the problem and attempted to fix it. He didn't. It still stalls. Anyone had any similar problems? It cuts out when driving slowly or idling, and the weather makes no difference. I can give you some more info if you need it. We are taking it back on Monday, because he said to bring it back if it continued to stall. He repaired the the engine wiring harness at the crankshaft which was broken, and cleaned the throttle body and gave it a tune and service. We got alot of other stuff repaired and replaced (Globes in tail light and inside the car). Basically we are $555 poorer with a car that still stalls. Are we being screwed? Do they have to then repair it for free, or charge for parts if needed?

What RON fuel do u use? (98 recommended) Volvo DO NOT recommend ETHANOL fuels, as the fuels system rubbers are damaged by them & will need checking/replacement if you've put some in. Do you need new plugs, HT cables, have air leaks in the manifold system? Blocked exhaust? Check with Volvo specialist wrecker/mechanic, but not dealer, for affordable answers. this is not a car for just any mechanic, they actually have to have some experience with them to be of any use. Is your fuel pressure regulator OK? K-Jetronic types are expensive (a block mounted on mudguard), LF-JETRONIC (cylinder mounted at front of fuel gallery) are much cheaper-NOT considered interchangeable. If your Check Engine light is on, you have a fault in your EMU or it's parts, and it needs diagnosis to see what's wrong. LF-JETRONIC systems are self-learning and tune automatically to the lowest pollution settings for fuel supply and ignition timing. K-Jetronic system is semi-mechanical, and depends mainly on it's adjustments for correct fuel delivery. Adjustment, cleaning and lubricating occasionally required.
