Hi!!
Someone please help with a problem that developed today with my 1996 VOLVO 440i....
(i'm not so hot with car mechanics and would appreciate any help identifying the problem)
...... the engine revs between 1,000 and 2,000 at standstill then sticks at 2,000 revs. This happened a week ago but seemed to fix itself but now back again today.

Any ideas?

its probs the idle speed regulation valve - if you take the air intake off, its a small black box bolted to the front of the single point injection unit - probably has 4 wires going to it. They're about £75 - £100 for a new one, but you can get one from a scrap yard for a lot less, or even just try cleaning the old one.
to take it off, you take the single point injection unit off first, then unbolt the idle speed reg valve...

Also check for vaccum leaks including the brake booster valve.
