Does anyone know how to test the impulse sender in the distributor in an '82 244? I think that that is the reason my car isn't getting spark but don't know how to test it.

You can put a test light or volt meter on coil connection number 15 (blue wire) and see the voltage pulse while someone engages the starter OR remove the secondary coil wire and plece it close to the fender and watch for spark.

The small connector on the dist that has the 3 wires for the hall sensor breaks very easy. I've also heard of people moving a small flat screw driver in front of the sensor with the key in the run postion and seeing spark from the coil wire.

Replacing the pickup is not easy.

The first thing I did when i thought i wasn't getting spark was test for spark off the coil wire and i'm not getting spark there. So i tested the coil by the book and it appears to be functioning well. Thats why i was thinking it was the impulse sender. I already tested to make sure that the coil was getting power (12V). If the impulse sender is working should there be a change in the voltage when the starter is engaged?
