Hello,

What a terrific forum - I am thinking of buying a Volvo V40 diesel wagon - apparently the ONLY ONE in Australia!

I want a reliable and reasonably economical car to tow my boat on a single axle trailer - it weighs under a tonne.

I'd really appreciate any advice on whether or not this is a suitable car. It's done around 100K

Thanks! :)

Glad to (try to) help!

My manual give the maximum towing weight for an unbraked trailer as 645kg. For a braked trailer it is 1400kg. These figures are with the provisos as to (car) axle weights, which can be found on the designation plate in the engine compartment

The plate has four different weights quoted on lines 4 to 7. They are the Max permitted laden weight (of the car), Max permitted weight of the combination, Max permitted weight on front axle and max permitted weight on rear axle (the latter may have two figures but the book does not explain why!).

Regards, Jim
