My sister recently bought a '96 850. Under moderate brake pressure the car pulls to the left, and the steering wheel twists to the right. The ABS warning light is on; but I don't suppose ABS would cause this problem. Any ideas? Another problem with the car is the speedometer works intermittently. It can usually be temporarily fixed by turning the ignition off and back on. I know a bad ABS module can mess with the speedometer; but wouldn't it just stop working, rather than working sporadically? Is this just the speed sensor? The headliner is falling down. I wanted to fix this for her but I can't find any information on it. I've searched the web, but only found info for gluing the fabric back onto the sunroof slide. I would really appreciate help with these things.

thanks,
josh

Josh, READ the codes from the ABS light first and go from there. There's a code instore and it needs to be read and deleted first.

Headliner? I sent mine to the customiser and after 2 hours, looks like new.

Unless you're 100% sure that the problem is a dead ABS controller, you might want to read the codes first.

That said, the symptoms above are consistent of a dying AS Controller. Still... better safe than sorry.

My sister took the car to a mechanic today; and he says the problem is probably the ignition switch. The fact that the speedometer starts working when you turn it off briefly, and the fact that the AC compressor quits when you turn if off like this makes him think it's the ignition switch. This sounds pretty improbable to me. Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks,
josh

Hehe. Yes, it's possible. But dude, seriously, you NEED to read the code first. If the ABS light is on, like you said, you need to read the codes.
