My left headlight was out so I changed the bulb but this didn't solve problem. Checked fuse, that was ok. Took car to electrician as advised by local garage. Picked up car to find that there was no charge for work as they said headlight was working ok. I'm scratching my head about now. Thanked the shop, and drove off.

2 hours later headlight not working again. Contacted electrician shop who told me they had started car 4 times and light came on every time. They advised that I would need to find garage with a diagnostic machine.

Has anyone else had a headlight with mind of its own and if so what is remedy???

Sounds like the problem I'm having! Does the high beams work? I can't figure it out, but I'll let you know if I do.

No the light is out all together. I looked on S40 forum and there seems to be one or two similar problems there. I'll keep you posted

Maybe the cause is just corrosion. I would try spraying some electrical contact cleaner on the the headlight plug. This is where I would look first if the light is intermittently working.
