has anyone really used Ford (T-Bird, Taurus, Windstar) wheels on their Volvo 240 series. The lug pattern is correct, but the offset is off. Just wondering, as the Ford wheels are plentiful and cheap.

Thanx.

In the interests of safety, do not use anything but Volvo factory wheels or aftermarket wheels made specifically for a 240. Especially if you have a wagon, and with wagons make sure to run the proper tire size or as close to it as possible. Below i've listed some suggestions. If you get some Volvo alloy wheels, it is ok to use a different size than I mention, but do not tow with wheels not designed for a 240. 240 Alloys aren't bad looking and you can still use these sizes.

If you have a sedan, stop here. Use whatever size is specified for the wheel you have. Wagon owners, read on.

Proper size on a wagon is 185R14 Load range B. All that is available is Load range C these days from the Tire rack. You can safely inflate these to 36 when towing or loading down, but the ride is harsh. Use 32 all around when not towing/loaded, and its comfortable with these tires. I recommend Yokohama Y356, but these are summer only tires. Go with the below size for winter.

Alternately, and do not run these at the maximum pressure listed in your passengers door sill. Use P195/75/R14 with an S speed rating or higher. Inflate these to 32 all around as well, and do not tow with this size tire at all. They cannot handle the heat and stress. Any brand of tire here will do at this size, but I would recommend a Michelin or BF Tire with good load rating (92S).

Running a wagon with the sedan size (P185/70/R14) is dangerous at high speed with any sort of load. They simply cannot handle the load, no matter what anyone says. Your wagon is heavier than the sedan and can hold a lot more cargo.
