hope you can help,
My v40 T4, has a fuel gauge problem it comes up to the first bar and stops.
I have swapped the sender unit in the tank with the one on my S40 T4 and there is nothing wrong with the sender units in the tank on either vehicle trip computer reads 0 with a full tank.

What can it be? any help will be appreciated, would be nice to see how much fuel I have rather that work it out from my trip computer and average mpg.

Pml

My dads 2001 S40 has the same problem. Ive checked for a supply on the sender and checked the sender itself so It must be either wiring or the dash gauge but I've yet had time to have a look for him.

I am also experiencing what sounds like the same problem :( However I get a glimmer of hope once in a while when I get an accurate fuel reading occasionally during travel (not every trip though!).
I have just checked all of the connections under the back seats and carpet and can find nothing wrong. So I guess my next step is to try a new fuel pump and sender :(
Has anyone got any other ideas of other things to check before I put my hand in my pocket and add to Volvo profits?

We managed to fix my dads car. We jury wired the car to the sender on my T4 and proved the cars wiring ok. Turned out once we removed the pump and sender unit that a wire has snapped off the sender below the top of the unit but inside the tank. We let the sender dry out and resoldered the wire back on. A new gasket was fitted and it was reassembled and functioned ok. If you do remove the sender make sure that you put the retaing ring straight back on the thread as the tank thread swells and you wont get it back on otherwise, even then its a bit fiddly.

Hi, having a similar sort of problem on my 2.0T, does any one know how to remove the fuel pipes (x2) from the top of the fuel pump/sender assembly? Also is it possible for me to undo the the black ring by knocking it round with a screwdriver/hammer?

The fuel pipes release when you put pressure on the clip at the back. Alhtough the fuel pump ring may release with knocking it around with a screw driver and hammer, its alot better if you can get something onj both side of the ring to even out the pressure when releasing it.
