How many miles/km do you have on your Volvo740? I have 387000 km and it still runs and drives well!

Thats not bad, ive worked 387000km out to be about 240470 miles

Im not sure how much mileage mine has on it, the clocks show 57000 miles (91732 km)

I think its probably had a replacement clockset at some point, the car is sooo worn out, id swear its done more like 400000miles (643737km)

My Dad has the same car as me!! His is a 2.0 gl though. It looks weird having two 740 estates parked outside the house, looks like were going into the Funeral business!!

Anyway my old mans is on approx 200000 miles (321868km) and mine is showing more than twice the amount of wear on it!!

Shes is still running ok however, i only bought mine a few days ago and it was running like a dog, Ive changed a few ignition parts and turned a few screws and knobs now shes running well!!

Im planning on keeping it simply for the novelty that its done an unknown but extreme amount of miles! Gives it character

My 1986 740 GLE odometer stopped working a couple of years ago and is stuck at 241,427 miles... I haven't put too many miles on it since then, and I'm trying to get parts to repair the odometer. Seems like 740 instrument panels and speedo/odo heads are hard to come by. I would be happy if I could just find the replacement gears for the odometer...

I turned 225,000 miles on my '89 Wagon 2.3 8v today. Engine runs good, trans is good, body is nice. Got a couple things that don't work, but I like the car...it goes down the road very nice.

198k kilometers on the car, 89 740GL. Car runs like a dream, it has some mild bodywork that needs to be done plus the headliner needs fixing up but other then that it's perfect.

My 1988 740 Turbo has 392,000 on the clock, but the engine was replaced at around 350K when an oil leak blew it up, so the numbers aren't accurate.

193,680 km on my 1989 740 GL, but I have only owned it 4 days and the odometer has stopped working...... according to the last service it was 192,500 and that was 6 months ago so it must be pretty close to that.

I have a 1986 Volvo 740 GLE with 253,000 miles. Runs great!! My only concern is that last time I had it in the shop, the guys said that the wiring harness is deteriorating and try not to touch any of it, as it is falling apart. Still runs great. I guess I'll drive it till it quits. With this many miles is it worth it to replace a wiring harness??
Cheers

My 1989 740 GL wagon just turned 247,000 miles old. I bought her about a month ago.
I am extremely pleased with how well this car still runs! This car is the best car I have ever owned and the cheapest I only paid $600 for her. I have made a personal pact to myself to never use credit towards a car, what I mean is I will never finance. I always pay in full with cash. I am lucky I live in Portland, OR. there are a lot of Volvos to go around!
This is my second as I owned a 1980 242 GT, which looked a lot cooler than my current model but, I find the 740 a lot easier to work on. I was so excited when I test drove my 740 (because it drove so well) that I didn't bother to check the heater fan switch. I was almost devastated when I got home and the heater would not turn on (fan switch) because my roomie had had a 740 with a heater core leak a $1000 fix or more. I willfully thank all of you for the info here, and that I was able to troubleshoot my problem to just a blower motor being out! This fix cost me less than $60 and about an hour and a half of my time as I am a DIYer when I can. Of coarse the headliner is gone,
and the bushings need to be replaced all around. I can deal with that as I said I only paid $600 dollars for the best car I've ever owned.

Thanks Volvo you are the greatest. I understand Ford bought you out sometime ago.
I hope that you are entitled to stay on your quality path so that I can continue to buy you used, at a better quality than I would buy your parent companies cars brand new!
Thanks,
Aaron

Just purchased a 1988 740 with 140k.

It is my first Volvo but so far I am very happy with the purchase. The car in general is in great shape. No rust, interior very good and it starts and runs. It needs routine maintenance that hasn't been kept up in quite some time, but otherwise a great vehicle.

I paid $600 for the car and I figure that I can put another $600 into repairs and still have a good deal.
