Has anyone else experienced this? My 2002 S80 T6 trip computer calculates my mpg is actually higher by 1mpg +/- than if I manually compute at a fillup. I feel hoodwinked. I can understand an error smaller than this but telling me I'm getting a higher gas mileage than I am truly getting is just wrong! I reset my trip computer after each fill up along with one of my trip odometers. Please, others reset your trip odometer, fill up, burn a tank, fill up again and check your mileage compared to fuel burned and compare to your trip computer. Any noticable difference?....

If the trip computer can be recalulated would it be covered under warranty?

I have an '04 S80 D5. I often test brim to brim mpg. I find my trip computer reads consistently optimistic. A computer indication of 41-42 mpg always calculates to an actual 35.5-36 mpg.

I don't know of a single car that has a completely accurate trip computer. In addition, the trip computer doesn't measure fill up to fill up unless reset each time, it measures averages over 500 miles.

That's exactly what I have been doing. Resetting the odometer and the trip computer with each fill up. My take is it should calculate more accurately otherwise in reality what good is it...?

Has anyone read about the inaccuracy of several car manufacturer's odometers indicating the owner was driving less than what was actually reading, i.e. 1.0 mile driven read 1.1 mile? Never was in favor of the owner. I recall it led to a class action suit because it was shorting people on their warranties.

What I'm getting at is don't rely on your trip computer for accuracy. I suggest raydar,"oh my god what a scandal" calculate it out to see how inaccurate your's is. Hey if several people check, then if everyone's is inaccurate, don't you think Volvo would want to correct it? mrlownotes' is way off....Check for yourselves. Thanks for responding.

My 99 S80 T6 shows 11.7 to 12.00 L/100 km. My manual check at the pump is 11.54 to 12.00 L/100 km at different fillups So I am pretty hapy with the accuracy.

Yuri,

Thanks for the reply. I calculate your getting between 19.7 to 20 miles per US gallon. Good to hear your computer calculates accurately.

Another question is how accurate is everyone's odometer? Next time I'm out on the highway I'll compare between the measured miles or use a GPS to calculate how accurate it is. I'll check tire pressure first.

Apparently +/-2 to 4% is acceptable...
