Hi everyone,

Heres my problem! i would be really greatful if someone could give me an answer!

Right, when i start on a journey the brakes are fine, however if i brake heavily at a set of traffic lights, when i start moving again il notice that the brakes have not fully released and it feels like im driving with the handbrake up a few clicks! its especially noticible if i roll to a stop it will slow down quickly then suddenly jolt to a stop, or if im on a hill it will not roll backwards.

If i brake lightly, this effect is reduced, to say the extent of one click on the handbrake, when rolling to a stop it will jolt, but not as badly as if i just slammed on.

The effect of both wears off after about a mile of driving, if i avoid using the brake or use it sparsely, but even so it is quite frustrating as i know its wearing out my brakes and is having a detrimental effect on the fuel economy!

Just to note the brakes and disks are about 7 months old, and i cant recall this problem when i started using them.

Thanks for your help guys

That's allright if you're not on the right forum section  You might try to post it to the S40 pre-2005 though. Someone may have had this problem with you're specific model.

Whoa It could be so many things. I'de check your brake fluids. If you can take a look at the brake look for any kind of dirt that may interfere with the brake pad's motion.
I know it sounds crazy but may be the problem is at the foot brake level.

Well I can imaging how annoying that must be.
Let us know if you found what it is.

Good luck

Turns out the caliper rails was slightly rusty and when the brakes warmed up they would expand and not let the pads retract away from the disk! sanded them down re luricated it, works a treat now!

Well even though you have a different model S40, thanks for posting the solution to the problem. It could affect the 2nd generation S40 as well. Glad to hear it is resolved for you.
