I was wondering how many kilometers i can travel on one tank of gas. My gas gauge isnt working and i have to track how many kilometers i drive on the odometer. It is rather annoying not to know how long i can go before refilling my tank. As stated my car is a 1986 volvo 740 gle, not a turbo, not a stationwagon. Thanks! Also, if this information is too vague, the size of the gas tank in litres would help as well. Thank you!

According to my Haynes 740 & 760, 1982 through 1988, it either holds 13.2 (60L) or 18.0 (82L) gallons, depending on the model. They fail to specify which is which, but I would assume it's the lesser one.

But I can tell you I own a 1984, 760 GLE Turbo Sedan, and my fuel tank holds 17.9 (aka. 18) gallons. And I usually get 22 MPG HWY, and probably closer to 17 in city; that's also of course considering I use 91 octane fuel. And from my account when doing a mixture of city and hwy I would get around 300 miles + per fuel tank.

Hope this has offered you a little help.

I just filled up my '89 8v, and managed 24mpg combined. However, I have NO clue how big the tank is. I put 14.9 gallons in it.

I have a 90' 760. The owners manual says I have a 21 gallon tank. My gas gauge is also broken so I base my fuel amount on the mileage I've traveled. I get to a little over 300 miles before I get scared and refuel.

I find this quite an interesting topic.

My fuel gauge doesnt work either (will get round to fixing it)

Cause ive only had the car a few days, im not really sure how much was in it when i got it and how far i can go on a tenner

Im using guesswork at the mo, im just gonna put a tenner in every 50 miles just to be safe.

I get approx 2 gallons-ish for a tenner down my way and im just gonna assume the car will do 25mpg.

Seems like everyone has the gas gauge issue. Both my gas gauge and my odometer in my '90 740gl are broken so I am not sure how to determine when the tank is running low as I can't set the trip odometer.

Arg. I'm trying now to determine which is the cheapest and easiest to fix. I tried replacing the signaler in the back by the fuel pump but that wasn't the gas gauge issue so now I must actually tackle the wiring. Not my forte by any means.

yes its a common problem, sometimes the float becomes filled with moisture and the angle of it changes... cracked cables etc ... i find my 740 2.0i k-jet 8v auto box gets 250 miles out of its tank safely and thats ragging the rubbish out of it everywhere lol ... 13 gallon tank.

Matt
