Are Volvo differentials Dana 30s? Will the parts interchange? I have a 1986 Volvo 740 Turbo.

Although Jeep does use a Dana 30 on their front axle the carrier is mounted on the opposite side.

If you are looking for a different ratio there is some variety in looking at different models of the 700 series. Limited slips are available through TruTrac.

i have been told my 240 has a dana 30 centre as used in jeep front diff

Jeep does use a Dane 30 in many of their front differentials, but the front application has a reversed ring gear because the front differential runs exactly opposite the rear diff. This means that gear sets from Jeep front differentials will not work in your Volvo.

The difference between the 240's Dana 30 and the 700 series Dana 31 is the 30 series uses a 7.2" ring gear while the 31 uses a 7.562". This small increase in diameter of the ring gear and the larger pinion gear (1.376" vs 1.406") adds up to a marked increase in strength.
