Hey y'all, just had to change my rear tyres as the inner edge of both (about 1 inch) had like totally gone!!!!! Seriously, 1 inch was down to the wire, yet the remainder of the tyre was pretty much ok..

I had the tracking checked and adjusted about 2 months ago so that should be ok.. It seems to me like the wheels must be at some odd angle, but to look at they are fine, although dont really know how to check this.

Any help would be much appreciated, even if only to know what to ask the garage to check rather than them telling me crap and charging me a fortune!!!!

Thanks all,

Jamie

You need to take your car to a Tyre shop equipped with wheel alignment.
For more information read below.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=4

Most cars including Volvo have a slight negative camber specified, so the road handling when cornering is improved, however at the expense of the inner part of the tyre wearing more than the outer.

When I had tyres change the inner thread depth was about 1mm and the outer about 2mm. But your case sounds a bit more extreme. It is possible that the previous adjustment was not done properly (tightened properly) or he may have pulled up the wrong specs when doing the alingment. Normally they should pull up a report showing the before and after adjustment. Make sure they are no more than a couple of degrees negative for the rear.

You should get a wheel alignment done regularly or everytime you change/rotate tyres. Shops recommend every 6 months but I think annually is plenty.

Your camber is off , have the tire shop re-adjust your rear tires.
