:cat: Hi there everybody.

I need some advice please. I've just brought an American lawn mower-White-fitted with the Briggs and Stratton motor-21" blade, 6.5HP-it seriously demolishes grass and is self-propelled too.

However, I now need a Line Trimmer. I've narrowed my choices down to Husqvarna from Sweden and Stihl from Germany. For price-there is virtually nothing between them. It appears that there is very little between them for performance either.

Has anyone got any thoughts they would care to share with me please?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers :right:

:cat: Hi there Damotu.

I have had no experience of either machine. I was hoping that somebody in the world may have had the experience with these machines which I lack.

Hopefully, I might get some information of other people's experiences which could help me decide which of the two machines to buy.

Does that answer your question? :right:

I've got Troy-Bilt. I think they are both Briggs and Statton engines. I would buy them again.

FWIW, when I worked construction we always had Stihl equipment.

:) My point was I thought this forum was for Volvo Automobiles, likes/dislikes and peoples opinions/experts advice and sharing experiences., not home and garden questions...If I'am wrong, I apologize, although I'd like to hear other opinions.
Anyone..??

:cat: Good morning Damotu.

Thank you for your reply.

If you notice-this particular forum is the:

Off-Topic Lounge.

S60 R has just given me a vital piece of information simply by my asking for a second opinion. I come from a profession where second opinions virtually run the entire world.

As I have always said:

"if you don't ask for a second opinion, it implies that you know everything".

I hope that explanation clarifies my position.

Cheers :right:

:cat: Good morning S60 R.

They ought to breed off you. We need more people like you with simple insights which could change the world.

You'll never know how much I appreciate your input into my question-thank you.

When I visited the Stihl showroom-I saw the Troy-Bilt range, Stihl range and a host of other equipment they sell. Stihl is the New Zealand agent for Troy-Bilt. The showroom was about 4,000 square feet in size filled with every gadget under the sun-some big, some small.

The salesman told me that they do all their own servicing on the premises and they have one agent down country. Sounds all wonderful.

I went and saw the Husqvarna range at the local garden machinery shop. The salesman told me that Husqvarna has several service agents around the city. I checked that out and they do.

Still, not much to go on until I read your remarks.

If the Stihl agent does all their own servicing-it simply means that their commerical customers are going to have their equipment repaired far quicker than the private customer.

I doubt that either machine will need much servicing-but it will be just my luck that the day I want help with servicing-so does ten commercial customers. I don't fancy my chances fending off commercial customers for workshop time for a Line Trimmer some how. :P

Cheers and thanks again for your input :57:

Damotu,

Perhaps you should have comprehended the instructions for posting on the OTF.

They are:

OFF TOPIC LOUNGE
Talk about it all in here, although Volvo topics should not be posted in here.

Still waiting to see your printed apology, especially to poor ol' Auckland.
