Hi,

Not a volvo owner, but, I am the owner of a toyota motorhome with the A43D trans. It needs a new OD solenoid. Mine is permenently open allowing normal OD use. In most rigs I wouldn't care, but, when you are dragging a house with this tranny, there are times that holding 3rd gear may keep your tranny from going into chernobyl mode.

My research on the net tells me that this tranny is the same one used in the 240s and other RWD volvos. Apparently it is built buy Aisin.

Toyota wants an obscene amount of money for the solenoid, but there is somebody on ebay peddling brand new, 1 year warranty solenoids for the volvo solenoid for 70 bucks, free shipping. There is a very clear picture on ebay and it looks identical to mine.

I emailed the seller, but, he says it is a volvo only part.

Any info would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to hand 200+ dollars over to the toy parts guy.

thanks,

pete

I doubt that the trany is the same. I would recoment a trip to the salvage yard to get a used part that is from a similar toyota.

Here's a pic I'm hosting of a Kaehler solenoid for a 93 240 , picture compliments of my employer , Worldpac.
the number on the solenoid is the manufacturers part number.
Hope this helps Click for larger image.

Funny enough it is the same tranny {aw71}. Very minor differences, the volvo performance community has been raping that trany for clutch pack and valve bodys for a long time.
Most have moved on to different ones now but yea your right they are the same tranny.
