Hi all,

bought a V50 2.4i Manual here in South Africa September 2004. Had a few niggles as we went along, but the last few months have been fraying a few nerves...

For about two years now various Volvo dealerships have been trying to locate the source of a mechanical noise coming from the left rear suspension area. They replaced rear stabilizer arms; dismantled complete rear suspension, lubricated set-up and re-fitted; had electronic sensors on rear set-up to try and pin-point source of noise; last week thought it was the audio system amp in that region because it is fitted across various sections of sheet metal - all of this with no results to date.

Anybody else had this sort of concern? The noise is normally quite clear at low speeds when going over a curb or the like, but the last few weeks constantly audible almost all the time up to about 60kph.

Ary

I have just bought a used V50 and am experiencing a constant ringing noise whenever the engine is running. It sounds similar to your issue. The noise is constant regardless of revs, speed, fan speed, etc. and low enough that it cannot be heard at 60 kph.
Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

Hi stenbjerre,

after driving up and down my driveway at home, with local Volvo garage technician and Volvo South Africa technical person in attendance, they located one of the origins as being the rear seat latch and the bracket it hooks onto (bolted onto that left rear suspension sheetmetal area). After realignment of this set-up, that noise was gone.

But then a few weeks later, the remainder of this problem started-up again, but now more right rear area... went back to the dealership, they worked on fuel filler pipe and surrounding parts. Now it is just the original left rear "constant rumble at low speeds" that need to be fixed.
Car is already booked for next week to attend to this.

I'll keep you updated.

Hi Ary,
Sounds like a longer story... Good luck.
I took mine to the dealers and they seem to think it's the fuel pump that's causing the problem. They have ordered a new one and it will be installed next week. We'll see...

Hi again all,

my car went back to the local Volvo dealership and the noise that I was still frustrated with, was actually the latch located in the left rear seat back.

They worked on this and ALL the noise from that area is now fixed.
I can at last enjoy driving my car again.

Regards,
Ary
