I have bought a used v50 about a month ago. Occasionally I started to hear a strange 3 to 5 sec long sound coming from somewhere in or around the house. Originally I thought it was an electronic devise like a mobile phone running out of battery or power. But after two weeks I discovered it was the Volvo V50! It is very hard to describe the sound but it reminds me vaguely of a faint sea horn which ships use. It is not loud at all and it happens irregulary when the car has been parked for a while. We never hear it when we drive the car. Once I was lucky enough to be washing my car when it happened. I looked in the interior and there was no special message on the INFO display or nothing else blinking. I spoke to the dealer but they have no clue what it may be. Has anyone got any clue what this is or experienced something similar?

I have the same issue... at first i thought it was a factory or something in the neighbourhood that made this noice, but i starte hearing this in different citys in the country. and always when i was standing close to my car.

Now i'm sure it's from my car (heared it already a couple of times standing next to it, an already twice afther closing the trunk...) but i can't really find out where it's coming from.

After telling my dealer they suggested that te sound comes from the automatic hight adaptions of the headlights. so next time i'll try to find out if this sound really comes from there... (but i have no bi-xenons so i'm not sure if i have this...)

Hi...had similar problem. Garage thought it was something to do with fuel inlet. They changed pipes etc but has not stopped the noise. Mine goes off at random times and 3am is not funny! It is currently in for the engineers to listen to but they have not been able to recreate the noise. The problem is the random nature of the noise...can't say exactly when it will happen! :thumbsup:

if i am not mistaken, which is most of the time according to the mrs :grin: , i think your engine is pressurising and then releasing the pressure. check the head gasket. i am not sure, check the v50 forum archives, i remember someone explaining something like that. good luck.
