Hi, I have (obviously) the 2004.5 volvo s40. The antenna mast broke, and when I went to volvo i could kinda tell they were screwing me around. It ended up being a bit insulting.

First the part cost 40 dollars to replace...then they forgot that it was the 2004.5 and not the 2004, so then the mast was 55 bucks...then with parts all included it would be 85 because there were "additional" parts needed besides just the....plus 100 dollars in labor....and maybe additional expenses if of course the motor was broken.

I couldn't really trust them after that of course.

I remember my father (who is far from a mechanic) fixing his antenna on his own, and I figured it couldn't be too hard. So I looked at doing it myself.

I can order a new mast without a problem for pretty cheap. I know the basic instructions for the 2004 models, but I don't have the instructions for 2004.5 (though I can't imagine they are too different. I was wondering if anyone around here had any experience changing the mast themselves?

If worse comes to worse I'll negotiate a different dealership down.
