well, i found an intake, but im not sure how to install it now. it bolts directly onto the mass air flow meter, but removing the top half of the airbox means disconnecting what looks like a sensor and some sort of vacuum tube. what would i do with those? anyone with experience in this matter please help me out...

Ok heres a pic of the intake from the guy selling it. He swears he has one in his own 850 GLT non-turbo. Also some pics of my intake showing the pieces i would have to disconnect to remove the top half of the airbox. I've seen pics on cardomain.com of n/a 850 GLT's with cone air filters, and i'm curious what they did with the parts i circled.

I dont know what you would do with those hoses. But if you cant get the top of the box back on, personally, I would not bother because you will be sucking in hot engine air.

On my Uk spec 2.0 20v (n/a) i havent got any of those pipes going to the top of my airbox!!

The two vaccuum hoses going in there as shown in your pics i do have but they dont go there. They go in to a small box bolted to the outside of the bottom part of the airbox under the main inlet pipe.

Lift up the lid of the airbox, turn it upside down and see what is inside there that they are connected to. If its a small box/relay looking object it is probably your EGR controller. In that case you can unbolt that from the lid and cable tie to one side but make sure it is connected up still.

As for the larger air pipe that you have circled, where does that go if you follow it?

I think the big hose goes to the air pump.

yes you are right it leads to the air pump:

http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/airpump1.php

i guess im stuck then? i think it would be too difficult to re-route...
i wonder where this is in GLT's different than mine?
i might have to give up on my dreams of a cone filter, unless i can fit one inside the airbox or something

I think you can hook a air filter simalar to this http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=1090 to that hose that gos to the air pump than you dont need it hooked to the air filter box anymore.

lol im still brainstorming over here...ive been doing a lot of searching on the air pump and from what i can see, it is there for the purpose of emissions...turns on when the car is sitting for a while and draws in extra fresh air.
since i am planning on keeping the bottom half of the airbox and setting the intake inside (like picture above) i think i will cut a matching hole in the bottom half of the airbox and connect the air pump hose to that...
as far as the other two vacuum hoses, i will try what beavus said:

once i get a free day to mess around with this I will let everybody know how this goes. i know there are other people with intakes set up like this and wondering how to make it work
