Hello, in trying to replace the rear pads on my 2005 S40 T5 I am unable to compress the rear piston into the caliper. My guess is that there is some kind of ratcheting mechanism that keeps the piston within x distance from the rotor so that the mechanical parking brake hardware has a specific travel (with cable adjustment at the lever). The piston top has 2 holes milled in it as if some kind of tool may be used to twist it. How does one release the mechanical hold on the piston so that it can be compressed back into the caliper? I've seen pictures of the tool which looks like a press but the picture and info don't say whether the piston is twisted or moved while compressing. Any help would be great. - Frank :)

I believe that the piston is twisted in on most cars that have rear discs, as this is part of the handbrake mechanism as well. Vadis only instructs to press the piston back in though, and does not mention any twisting.

If you have Pep Boys near you they loan you the tool for free and you do not have to buy their pads (you do have to put a deposit down on the tool - but you get it back). It is so easy with the right tool.
The piston needs to be pushed and turned at the same time. You can do it little by litte with needle nose pliers...its a real PITA that way. The rears are that way due to the fact that the emergency brake is tied into the rear calipers of most modern cars.
