Hi everyone.

I hope I can get some answers here.

This morning my 97 V40 1.9TD didn't start (first time ever) then it did on second try and sort of spluttered but with quite a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust. I had no previous problems other than a bit of black smoke when accelerating and the running temperature has been fine (ie there were no overheating issues)

I am obviously worried that this is a blown head gasket but could it be something else? I didn't try to drive the car for fear of it being serious so I got the bus to work this morning. I suppose I would just like some of your thoughts before I get home tonight.

I had white smoke also. In my case it was a bad turbo. I am told this is common on the v and s40 especially if you are not good with the oil change timing

Yesterday, my V40 had white smoke coming from the bonnet. Had it towed to the workshop and they found a mixture of oil and coolant spewed all over the engine area.
The mechanic was not able to estimate the extent of the repair needed.
Appreciate if someone can throw some light on how this could have happen. And will this be a massive engine repair job?
