The OEM speakers are notoriously poor in sound quality, even when new. And the slightest overbass blows them out.

May I suggest Pioneer Model: TS-G1041R

They can be had at Best Buy for $54.99 per pair. You may also be able to use the existing OEM covers to go over the top depending upon the depth and shape of them.

OEM speakers are probably going to run you a lot more than this... I still have the original speakers in mine for now as sound quality isn't really on my priority list.

As far as replacing the radio unit itself, I am unfortunately not an expert in car audio. I once replaced the radio in my high school car (1988 Ford Escort GL) and I had permanent daytime running lights via the turn signals afterwords.. So I dont mess with the electrics in that manner anymore haha  Although the turn signals did still work!

Hope this helps :)

I replaced my 1993 245's TD-613 radio not long ago for about $200. The cassette feature and FM stopped working. A Volvo mechanic friend was able to get a re-manufactured Volvo radio and the cost was about $200. You will have to remove your radio with the faceplate and give it to the seller. I had my re-manufactured radio in a couple of days.

To remove the radio, you'll need to remove the glove box (a few screws-mine were Phillips head).
Remove the two trim panels between the instrument panel and radio/vents
(gently pop them out). Remove the screw that holds the radio trim panel in
place. From inside the glove box, feel around the side and back of the
radio for the anti-theft device. Should just be one screw. Then the radio should be free except for the wiring/antenna connectors in the back. Remove them.

Sure hope this helps...

If you still need help with wiring your radio or advise on replacing it, PM me, I own a 1991 sedan and have all new speakers and radio in car. Alpine radio, Pioneer 5 1/4 front TS-G1431R and bypassed rear doors and added my own personal touch, two 6x9 1993 850 sedan rear speakers with pioneer TS-A69623R's in them.

I replaced the original in the 89 with a cd and radio. It was bought on ebay for about $20. It cost another $15 to buy the connector plug (also on ebay). The real work is taking apart the dash to get it in. I have the old radio/ cassette. If you want it let me know. $10 plus shipping, about another $10. terence@artbyterence.com
