I've just purchased a 2002 S40 1.9T, and It is just drinking the gas. On this tank, I have driven about 150km's and I've already used half a tank. The garage checked all my sensors and they say everything is fine...I can't even go 400km's on a tank. Does anyone else have this issue? Or does anyone have an idea what's wrong? I'm not driving the car hard either. Please help.

:)
The s40 is not a Honda Civic. Its made from tensile steal and it weighs a friggin ton, this is why your economy is poor.

Can't be. I know yours is turbo and it should use more than mine, but mine is 2.0L and I can easily do nearly 700km with full tank. Something is clearly wrong with your car, I think it would be best to go for diagnostics.

I agree with member 'Damaso', should do lots better than that..I have a 2002 S80 T6 that netted me on our last 600 mile trip, all Interstate driving an even 29MPG...
I run 75/80 most of the time and use the 91 octane fuel...Just keep your foot light and try not to engage the turbo especially from a stop..(Hard not to most of the time)..

I'd get the dealer to run a check..Believe something is not right.Good Luck

Check every Volvo parts, from the engine to fuel pump... May be it's your fuel pump or engine.

The problem has settled down a bit. I'm still not getting 600 plus kilometres per tank, but I do get about 550. I've discovered that once my low fuel light comes on, I can still travel more than 100km's. Does anyone else have the same issues?

:cat: Hi there Volvoman11.

Just to confuse the issue further-I use BP's Ultimate 98.4.

I last filled up with petrol on the 3rd June. Since then, I've driven 836k's and the orange light is not showing yet. I might get 900k's out of this tank.

I've said once, I've said it twice-get your Volvo agent to tune your vehicle. Use the highest octane rating for your fuel-you might have a very economical Volvo to drive.

Cheers :right:

I've had the same issue, I'm only getting about 300 miles/tank, which if this converter is correct is around 480 kilometers. Thanks for asking about this, I suppose I need to take mine to the dealer as well.

I have also found that using higher octane gas helps with my gas mileage greatly. I didn't realize that 91 was recommended, and that seems to help a lot.

:cat: Just a note!

I chicked out at 904k's.

As at today-I'm still using petrol I brought on the 24th August. I'm getting seriously low on petrol though. I'll probably refuel in a week or so!

At the moment-BP's Ultimate is NZ$1.76.9c per litre. Hopefully, a price drop with make buying another tank not so painful. I'm usually up for the thick end of $160.00 everytime I buy petrol.

Cheers :right:

I've had this problem on my last two cars and it's been solved by changing the lambda sensor. So soon as they ware out the engine starts runing rich.

I replaced the sensors in both cars with universal ones from ebay and they've both lasted fine for over 3000 miles on both cars. the universal sensors dont have the connector to join them onto the cars electrics so you have to cut the old one off and crimp the new wires on. but for the price of the universal one compared to the one with the connector it's very uch worth it.

Try running a KN filter they are about $38.00 US and can be brought on line through KN or I have got one through summitt racing equipment Postage and packaging is about $26 US. Check out Kn web site for feed back. Have been running one on my other car for 12 months, a Saab 900S 2.3 and am getting between 8.2 L and 8.6 L per 100k before that I was getting around the 9 L mark.
Happy motoring :57:

What type of filters from K&N are you suggestion? Air, oil, gas, not sure which one you are suggesting to purchase to help out with the gas mileage.
