I just got a 71 145 that's been sitting in a field for what looks like the last 15yrs. Just found this site and it was the most visited forum for 1xx series cars that I've seen. About 15yrs ago, I had a 69 142 that I really liked and then sold for another car. I've since missed it and finally came up with this 145 (for free).

It's been a while since I've worked on one of these and this car has some issues. It is complete and in pretty good shape but there are a few things I'd need to address.

Rear hatch. There is a fair amount of rust in it and I was wondering if one from a 245 would fit as there seem to be more of those around. What about the same question for doors and any other interchangeable parts?

I just got the car home today and haven't been able to do a full inventory of it (lots of rain) and only pressure washed it down because of all the fur needles. I did put some oil into the cylinders so I could try and start it soon. The brakes were pretty rusty and we had to push it DOWN the hill in my driveway.

The 200 series is a different car completly. I think that joining the Volvo Club of America might be a good place to start. I have had many 120's and 140's Volvo's over the years and I was able to find lots of part there.

I'll risk looking like a complete **** here... Are 140s and 240s really that different? We have had lots of both in the family, I would think that there are quite a lot of interchangeable parts even in some major panels if they aren't too many years apart.

The most obvious difference that I can think of is the door window frames were quite an expensive construction on 140s and less so on 240s and the 3/4 vent was gone by the first 240 - does mean the hole in the side of the car would take either.

Not that I really know or have ever tried swapping parts between models but I wouldn't rule it out just because I know that Volvo were quite averse to changing tooling if they could help it and there are many cases of models years being merged as old stock parts were run out.

Once you get forward of the windscreen 140s and 240s are certainly quite different.

GM
