Hi Volvoites,
Just looking for some recommendations for best plugs, plug wires, etc. for doing a tuneup on my old 81 240DL 2.1 liter 4 banger. Gotta get Ingrid the Swede ready to pass the smog test. This'll be my first tuneup on a Volvo so any other expert tips, heads ups, links, suggestions, etc would all be gratefully received. Thanks and best, Erik |

main thing for smog test I assume is CO2 level, correct
well from reading the Bosch book on that old kjet [assume you have in 81 model] it seems the Alen key mixture control in dist is the main item so you might twig it to lean, just for the test |

I just tuned up my 90 240DL and used this place www.eeuroparts.com found the link here good prices use Bosch plugs, cap ,rotor and Volvo original Bougicord wire set. Fuel and air filters. That would be a good start anyway.

Whatever you do don't go to Autozone, they gave me sparkplugs, a cap, and rotor that didn't fit. I then took the old parts in so they could see it and they brought out all the parts their computer said should fit. I picked the ones that to the naked eye looked exactly the same but guess what, all of the non-Bosch parts they had didn't fit. I finally just went to an exclusive Volvo parts store and got Bosch stuff that all works.

I get all my stuff for this car from IPD because thats (Volvos) all they do (well Subarus too). The prices might be a little bit more then online and parts stores, but you will NEVER get the wrong parts, unless the info you give them is wrong. And they are located ~5 miles from me, so no shipping.
YOu can aslo just call them for info. 8:30am-5:00pm. Great tech guys |
