I have a 2002 volvo c70 convertible auto that sometimes will start and others it won`t, it is now getting that it very rarely starts. I have had it in to numerous garages and had new throttle system, new plugs, servicing and a new crankshaft sensor all to no avail. If when it happened we locked it and then unlocked it used to start but now this does not even work.
I have had the problem again this morning, managed to get it started and took it to the garage. getting depressed now can anyone help me.

Regards leemaq

It is a shame that all those replaced parts have not made your car start. I would have asked for a refund since your car does not start reliably. Perhaps the factory security system has a fuel shutoff. Maybe the immobilizer reader for the chip in your key is faulty. These are just some thoughts, anyways good luck to you, it's too nice of a car not to drive.

it's a common problem for the immobiliser antenna to fail on these cars.. it's located on the steering column/ignition barrel and picks up the coded signal from your key.. it's a dealer only job and your probably looking at £20 GBP circa $45-$50 from your local dealers... HTH

(PS symptoms of the above are if the cars starts i.e. cranks and then shuts off 1 second later)..

I am having this exact problem on my 2001 C70! Finally, some help.

My volvo dealer is telling me that I cannot just replace the antenna, that I would have to have the antenna and immobilizer unit replaced together as a set; they are stating that one cannot be replaced without the other, that it wont work properly... Is this true?

Please help. I would much rather spend 50 bux then 700!!!

Thanks.

I had the exact same problem, and it turned out to be my starter after everything else had been replaced!!!! The dealer had to order the immobilizer ring and recode keys etc....car still had same problem when I got home and then they replaced the damn starter and it was fine.....mines would only start every15 to 20 turns of the ignition before the starter was changed.
