wow, i'm glad i found this site.

my 2001 v40 is no longer shifting as smoothly as it used to and i want to inspect the transmission fluid. there's no mention how to do this in the manual. can anyone help me out?

If you can't see the dip stick by looking down under the hood, you might have to lift up the car to see it.
Some cars like isuzu rodeo (late 1990s models) did not have dipsticks at all. They just had two bolts to drain and refill.

i've looked under a the hood and there's no dipstick. i guess i'll call volvo.

it's a yellow stick and right under the large turbo hose on the front right bottom corner of the engine. you have to look under the hose.

if the fluid is black it's lost all its hydraulic properties. You need a transmission flush. mine was acting a little rough too and I got it serviced and all is well
