Also some emails have asked me to explain how to replace the cabin air filter. This too is easy. For anyone who is interested, therese are the steps:

(1) purchase a new cabin air filter. You can get this at ipdusa.com. They're about 30 dollars.

(2) remove the old CAF. This is located under the glove box near the footwell light. You can get to the filter by removing the plastic covering under the glove box. This is held in by 2 torx screws. Remove this, and you've reached the CAF.

(3) slide out the old CAF.

(4) slide in the new one. Really, there's nothing more than that.

You'll notice cleaner air almost immediately. It's definetly worth it. I would change the CAF every 5th or 6th oil change.

I've just changed my cabin filter - nice easy job really and cheap too (genuine part on eBay £10)

But I have a question - where the filter slides in there are two openings ...

I have ECC so I fitted (30676419) which I believe is the larger carbon filter.
This went into the rear slot (nearest the bulkhead)

But is there another filter that is meant to go in the front slot ?

If there is another filter are they supposed to be used together ?

No, there are two slots because one slot is used for the traditional CAF, the other is a special filter which works together with the clean air sensor. You can use the better one, but it won't make a difference. Hope that helps.

Sorry, but if I have the IAQS, then I only need to buy the Charcoal filter, like this one? http://ipdusa.com/Volvo-S60/Filters-&-Tune...r/p-74-396-633/
I don't need to buy the other one?
Thanks.

You don't need the other one piercebrew, you only need the larger filter.

So can one get away with the thinner cheaper filter with an ECC on board? I had a thick carbon filter, and I purchased a micronAir filter which seems to be the thinner one going into the first slot. Using this alone will it affect the ECC? Apparently this is a pollen/dust/smoke filter as well.

Followed these directions and was able to do this with little difficulty. The pics linked to post #2 helped as well. Thanks!
