I have a 2002 S60 Volvo. A few months ago the internal automatic tint for night driving began to fade on the rearview mirror. Now everything in the mirror is blurry. Does anyone know why this has happened???

The dealership wants $800.00 to repair (they say electrical and sunroof involved). I don't even like the automatic night tint. I just want a regular rearview mirror.

Help

Mine is doing the same thing, but only the top 1/2". The dealer is right, not only the sunroof, but I believe the upper electronic module is located in the mirror.
I'm considering trying to remove the mirror itself and having a plain mirror custom cut at a glass shop. I've been looking out on eBay for another but I haven't had any luck as I think I need the same year/model due to the computer.

Mine is a 2002 also, and it happened to me. You need to replace the auto dim rearview mirror and the dealer will charge for the installation and a software download. I paid around $300.00 for the mirror and $120.00 for installation/software download.

I don't think it is that effective anyway - If mine went I think I would try to get a piece of mirror cut the same shape and stick it on top of the existing one.
