Hi All

this is my first post hear so thanks for reading

I have a 52 v40 1.9hdi sport lux estate, I have to say that i am not that impressed with it, i have to sell it before it costs me any more money, but thats or a different post.

the story:

I was driving along stalled the car, restarted it and since then the fans have been stuck on around 3 or 4, if i put it on 0 then they go around 2 or 3 but if i put it on auto it's more like 4 or 5.

this couldn't have come at a worse time as i need to sell it so i have to fix this to sell it.

oh and yes it does have climate control (don't get me started on this)

any help would be great

cheers

Tom

I have just tried to change the Climate control unit, this didn't fix it, I am not sure of the next step, I think there is a relay, I need to locate that and change that out, other than that it might be the fan control unit, but i'll try the relay first as it's the cheapest.

it's really anoying as i can't sell it in it's current condition and i can't drive it as i don't want to knock up the millage

Hi.
Sounds like the heater transistor. Located under the passanger foot well. 99p transistor from Maplin did the trick.

I have a volvo V40, 2002 (52) 1.8i.
This 'run-away' fan speed problem started this morning, 27th April 2008.
I'm getting the same things as outlined above. It runs at full speed and the fan selector knob has no effect. It won't even switch off when knob is set at zero either.

I checked the fuse box under the bonnet and took the AC fuse out. No change to the problem so 'googled' the internet and found I've joined a sad club of similarly frustrated Volvo owners !
I note that Robin4771, you say you fixed this problem by changing a heater transistor located under the passenger seat that you got from Maplin !?
We've got a Maplin open up not far away at Stevenage, so for 99p I'll try this.

PLEASE can you let us know where this transistor is exactly and if the item you replaced has a manufacturers code number to identify it.

Would greatly appreciate your reply. :liebe011:

I'll also speak to the Volvo Dealer in Hertfordshire as this could be a known fault with this model of car ?

Tony

the blower motor resistor?/relay is ....

remove the passenger side lower panel and peel back the carpet (here you will also find the relay unit (black box 2 white plugs connect to it)

the blower resistor is just to the right, with a lead connected
