Hello, I am new to this board as of today! I have a serious problem with my 93' 850 GLT and I was wondering if I could get some insight from someone with a little more experience than I have.

I have had the dreaded flashing arrow for approximately 5 months now. I have been ignoring it, as it has not posed a problem until the past week. Now, before I go into what is exactly happening I would like to add that my 850 has a BRAND NEW VOLVO TRANSMISSION (Yes I know it was crazy of me on a 93' - but I love this car!) Anyway, as of recently, I noticed that the RPM's are fluctuating (jumping) a tiny bit on the freeway. The car will then start to surge a little then the RPM's will go all the way down to zero, the dash lights come on and the car completely stalls out. The only way I have been successful in restarting is to wait 30 seconds, move the shifter VERY RAPIDLY up and down about 10 times, take the key out then restart. I am very scared that this will cause me to have an accident so I am reaching out for ANYONE that can tell me what I need to have fixed. Thanks in advance for your help!! :liebe011:

For all the 5 months that you had the flashing light on, did you once have the arrow-light code read?

Please have it done quickly - hopefully the problem can be claimed under warranty for the new gearbox...

I still need help on this subject and I would appreciate any help I can get. I took the car to a Volvo / Saab specialist and he replaced some module (I will get the name later) he stated that it isnt stalling anymore (Yes, all codes were read on the old OBD I). I get the car and it is still stalling on the freeway constantly STILL!!. The car just turns off when it feels like it. The RPM's go to ZERO, dash lights come on and car just stalls. What else can I do if the volvo specialist can't even fix it? Any other sensors that you guys can recommend? I will do anything at this point to avoid the embarassment and danger of stalling in intersections and freeways. Another thing, the flashing arrow is no longer flashing BUT....this car STILL stalls. I have so much money into it and I DON'T want to give up but I am helpless. The only thing I can think of or what I might do is replace PNP switch, CMP Sensor and check the alternator and battery. Any other suggestions from you guys? PLEASE! Dang! I hate these 1993's! I am doing everything I can to keep it going. I have over 7k in a car thats worth less than 3k but I am not gonna stop because I love the car. P.S. - It has 160k miles on it and virtually everything is new and all fluids are flushed immediately when needed and oil changed every 2.5k. PLEASE HELP IF POSSIBLE! I LOVE THIS 850!

could check the air mass sensor, check to see if the fuel pump is not faulty, fuel filter choked, vacuum leak at inlet manifold or associated hoses,,,,after it stalls check for codes,i checked for oil fouling on the spark plugs, just changed the fuel pump today and let the engine run for 20mins the when on a 5mile drive and did not stall, like i put not sure if it will help,,,,,,,,

I will bet my money on Fuel Filter. After reading, It looks like that your engine runs out of fuel after runining constantly on higher RPMs (more fuel flow) on Freeway. Otherwise also, My approach is to do the easiest thinks first.

Good Luck!!!!

After such an emphatic post - it looks like little ol' Kurtis has given up on this forum and disappeared (or posted his request on another forum).

And this brings up an issue which irritates me.

When people ask for assistance and other forum members go out of their way to do their best to provide assistance, in very few instances does the one requesting help have the courtesy to ever acknowledge or thank those who take the time to help and, I don't know about you, but this p!$$e$ me right off!

Dont worry, Volgrrr!

We recognise your contribution!
:)

I hope that's enough. Sorry, no money. And err, no free gifts. Just the pleasure knowing that you helped someone.

is that not a thanks?
anyways, some people will ask for help, but will rather listen to the fat pocketed dealer or private serviceman. Most techs want cash over friendship. We are FRIENDS here.

What about the fuel pump relay? Oh BTW. Why are you using a Volvo Mechanic? Too expensive.

Higher RPM's on highway? That makes no sense. Sorry bro, dont mean to call you out. But think about it for a second.
