Well, I put in Engine Coolant, and then the next day, its' gone. Like, gone. God knows where it went. The volvo just drinks it. I don't suspect that the volvo is burning off engine coolant, for obvious reasons, but I also don't seem to notice an leaks. And, my engine temp. guage is right smack in the middle.

So yeah, what should I check for?

Thanks,
-Sam

Hi,

A few things can be done:
1) check to see if you see water leaks from the exhaust.
2) open the oil cap and check for foam.(there should not be any)
3) check to see if the radiator cap spring is strong so it can hold the steam pressure inside the rediator.

I guess one of the option listed above will exist (hope for number 3 :amen: ).

I had exactly the same on my 440 until I found the problem last week (see my post in the 440 forum), it was a heater hose, at the highest point where it comes out of the block. in this instance at first it leaked water straight onto the exhaust, so no water pping to the ground, then after the level had dropped, it was losing water as steam from the hole.
The other thing to check is a leak round the shaft of the water pump, it will only leak under pressure when it is turning. so basically check all the hoses very carefully, if you top up and carefully watch with the engine idleing you may see where the leak is occuring.
Hope that helps, its a pain carrying a gallon of water and topping up at every trip.
