I have been driving my 760 GLE for a few years now. Don't get me wrong, I frickin love the thing. I just want something a little more modern. With the ETM problems of the S70, I have decided to look for either a late model 960 or 850 Turbo. My question to all of you is, which is the better model? Which one is more reliable? Which one is cheaper to maintain? Which one has better performance options? I do like RWD so the the 960 is my favorite so far. My only concern is the inline 6 cyl. engine. Is this a reliable engine?
Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

What year of the 960 are you thinking of? I have a 94 960 and I absolutely love it.

I have a 96 850R and am in serious love with the thing. It has 123,900 miles and it is running strong. Just the usual things that need to be addressed. If you stress over the minor things, don't get one. Otherwise the car runs like a top. I know of a guy who has a 850 turbo with 198,000 miles on the original engine and tranny. He beats the snot out of the car but does all the regular maintenance on it like clockwork. If has lased that long, mine should reach 500,000 miles easy. Hope it helps.

9 series is a bit larger than the 8. Also, as you have noted it is rear wheel drive. Recently bought a NA 850 sedan for my son. Neighbor across the street had a 960. I personally like the size of the 850 better. With the 960 you do get the 2.9 6 cyl. which is a larger engine. I think it really boils down to your personal preference. Both are good choices.
