Hi,
I have a 1989 Volvo 780 turbo (4cyl). I bought the car a few years ago and I really like it. I have a slight problem with it. The odometer stopped working while I was driving in the highway, exactly when the milage was changing from 79,999 to 80,000. I read in some other Volvo forums that this might be related to the "service" light that now comes on. The speedometer works fine. I tried resetting the "service" light by pressing the little thing to the left of the speedometer, but light doesn't reset. So I have a couple of questions please:

1. is the fact that the "service" light is on affecting the odometer?
2. How do you reset the "service"light?

I will appreciate any suggestion or coment.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

Daniel.
:)

I cannot help you with # 1, but maybe with #2

Depends on model. Easiest fix first

1. There is a rubber plug in the speedo cluster.Remove the rubber plug and with the key on press the button under the rubber plug and it will reset the light.

OR

2. Remove panel below steering wheel. Remove plastic pieces around knobs on lower corners of speedo cluster that go around dimmer knob and I forget what that other plastic knob is for. Remove screws behind these plastic pieces. Slide speedo cluster out (towards steering wheel) as far as possible without removing any wiring, cables, ect.. You can squeeze your hand up behing the cluster and behind where the 70mph number is on the speedometer, there is a little button. Push that and it will reset.

What a pain huh?

Hi,
thank you for your suggestion about reseting the light. I tried pressing the little button in the front, a few times already, but that doesn't seem to reset the light. I will try from behind the instrument cluster., but probably in a few weeks, since I want to re-stain the wood trim in the dash, and for that I will need to take the instrument cluster and other dash parts.
Thanks again .
Sincerely,

Daniel.
