Hi, is my second post here. Our 92 740 turbo has become almost impossible to start lately. But once it is running it runs great! I have been trying to reasearch this problem in the forums here and have found that it might be number of things.

Some say it might be the "Crank Position Sensor", while others say it is the "Throttle plate", ans still others say it might be the "Fuel Pump realy" or the "Radio Suppression Sensor".

As I am just beginging this venture I thought I would give a "Shout-Out" to all of you experienced Volvo Heads and see what you all think it might be.

Again, it is extremely hard to start but once it is running it runs great. I have noticed that even when the engine is warm, (after running for a while) it is still hard to start, but once it is running it runs great again. Thanks for any help you can offer. ~Matthew Hovis

Hi I had this exact same problem. When you turn the key, do you hear the fuel pumps kicking in? You should be able to hear one buzzing from the drivers seat and one light buzzing in the fuel tank. They only buz for a second and only when you turn the key, If the car is silent just before the first crank, then its your fuel system. If you hear one buzz but not the other buzz then you have a fuel pump gone. However if like me you cannot hear either buzz, then your fuel relay is knackered.
The fuel relay is behind the fuseboard behind the ashtray, Its usually a big rectangular green one. Back left corner. I got mine for £12 so they are not expensive.

Hope that helps.

Issy

bad fuel injectors? incorrect fuel:air ratio? start injector? vacuum hoses? aair flow meter?

if you have the haynes manual for 82-89 (isbn 1 85010 540 5) there are a few things from around page 128 to 141.

Car really kicked the bucket tonight and left us stranded. I think it must be the Fuel Pressure diaphram. I too off the vacuum line to it and gas came out.
