welcome ivozet

Yes it is posible to mount an overdrive transmission in a 144. The advantage is lower RPM at higher speeds and better gas mileage.

Welcome to Volvo forums.

Hi Ivozet!

It would be far easier to locate an overdrive transmission out of another vehicle than it would to do a conversion, provided that you could get the parts.

Even then you would probably have to find the whole transmission to take the overdrive parts off of.

To do the conversion , you will need the tailshaft and the coupler, as well as the OD itself. Disassembly is required to get the tailshaft out of the donor transmission.

I don't know how available parts are in your area but if you have a choice look for a transmission that already has an overdrive.
