To start I have a 1996 850R.

Problem: I do not have a keyless entry fob for my vehicle, so when I need to lock the car when i'm outside of it I have to walk over to the passenger side and insert the key, turn it once to lock just that door, then turn it again and all of the doors lock and the car alarms itself. I can not do this on the drivers side, I can unlock the doors that way on the drivers side, just not lock them. Is this suppose to be like that, or has a switch/relay gone bad on the drivers side? Also, does anyone know if I can just go to a dealer and get a keyless entry fob for my car? Any help would be nice, it's kind of embarassing every time I have to walk around the car and lock the vehicle down like that. Thanks guys!!

Nick

P.S.

With your guys help i'll have a mint R soon enough. I've already diagnosed/solved several problems with everyones help. :liebe011:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/downloads/Volvo_850.zip

Download that zip file. Check out keyless entry.pdf. There's a whole section on the central locking system.

Yupp, your central-locking is bad. Check the driver-side.

It could be a faulty central locking relay that responds to a signal from one door only.

Regarding the remote facility, I understand this is not fitted as standard on every Volvo.

Axel - Thanks for the link but that was a diagnostics for a 95, not a 96, will that make a difference?

Amp - Could you tell me where the drivers side locking relay is?? Like I said, I can unlock all doors from the drivers side, but only lock just the drivers side door.

Thanks again guys.

The attached files show the location of the central locking relay.

Note: Relay number 205 and 206. Central locking system and delayed inner lighting.

Also test to see if your locking mechanism on the driver-side is faulty.

AFAIK it doesn't matter if it's 95 or 96.
