I am installing a Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth into my '06 Volvo S40. It is Bluetooth-ready (high chassis number), but I don't have a clue where the 8-pin connector is. It seems to be plug & play, then just a matter of running wires to the mic and the user interfce module. Before I start pulling panels and breaking off tabs, can someone lead me in the right direction?

Logic tells me it is below the radio somewhere, but I have seen so much conflicting info. I'm not sure.

Also, do I need to know anything special before plugging in the interface cable? I've seen many warnings about disconnecting the battery, warning indicators going off, other things not working....even cars not starting, but I assume that's for actually wiring the thing in older models.

And...any advice about where to locate the main IHF1000 module or about running the wires?

Thanks for your help.

No one answered my request for help in this matter, so I had to resort to having the Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth installed at Best Buys.

Volvo was surprisingly helpful, however. They gave us manuals and sketchy, conflicting information and advice, but it was all they had. The .pdf manuals gave detailed information on removing panels and trim and connecting wires, but in the end it appeared too much for me. Look at the attached .pdf files and you'll see why.

As it turned out, we needed another harness (part #8640104, though I was told by a Volvo dealer in Richardson TX it's changing numbers to #30775964) to install it properly-- that is, to have the radio automatically mute when a call comes in and to have the caller's voice come through the Volvo's own speaker system.

My understanding of the installation is as follows:
The left side carpeted panels in the trunk were removed to expose the amplifier. The original cabling connecting the radio and the amplifier was unplugged at the amp and plugged into the harness. The IHF1000 cabling (with 8-pin connector) was also plugged into the harness and the harness was then plugged into the amplifier.

The IHF1000 main module came with about 9' of cabling, so it easily reached the amp. The main module was mounted somewhere below the radio behind a panel, with the user interface module (using Motorola's jargon) mounted between the radio and fan knobs on the floating console. The mic was located on the Volvo's center roof control panel, as suggested.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The technician said to be careful of the fiber optic cables in the Volvo, as bending them beyond 30 degrees could cause havoc with the radio.

Total cost, installed: $365 US

Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth from PCS Cellular $195.00 incl shipping
Best Buys installation $80, plus a $5 tip
Volvo harness, eBay $85

Thanks anyway. Hope this helps someone out there.

I have a 2006 V50, and installed the Motorola IHF1000 in it. You will need to buy the wiring harness for your particular vehicle from your Volvo dealer. Bob at Stamford Volvo can help you (800-281-8658). Mine was $80. I purchased the Motorola unit brand new on ebay for $80 also. When you go to connect the Motorola to the Volvo harness you will find a white 8 pin connector (contains 6 wires) that you will need to remove and directly connect the Motorola harness to the Volvo harness. (the interface harness that is made to connect to the 8 pin connector ONLY comes with the Volvo FULL kit --$300, and is not available separately). So for half the price of the Volvo kit I have exactly the same system, and it works flawlessly. I have pictures posted at Swedespeed.com if interested.
