Hi

I have recently bought a Volvo C70 1999 2.4T manual. For some reason when you take off or brake it makes a tweeting noise like a bloomin canary! Its not an engine noise, I think it myust be suspension... Has anyone else had this prob? It doesnt seem to upset the performance of the car or anything, in fact it doesnt seem to affect anything at all, but for such a nice car, its a shame for it to go round tweeting at everyone! :)

Thanks

Is the sound internal or external? If it's internal try holding the seatbelt clip - mine squeaks like a good 'un.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem, which is really annoying in the summer with the top down. I have tried spraying wd40 everywhere to no avail.
So if you find the cause of your "tweet" I would be grateful if you could post your results so I can get rid of mine too!

Thanks Col. :57:

Sorry for the delay.

Dropped the car off and the stealer reported back it was a bad break caliper.

I asked if they drove it and tehy said "no"

I laughed and walked out. Mystery remains...

Mine makes the same noise you are describing. Was wondering if all of your cars have a manual transmission. It was suggested to me by a volvo mechanic that the noise might be coming from the gearbox. If one of you has an auto then it kinda shoots that idea down. Thank you in advance

I recently had my front brakes redone. The one caliper was slightly engaged causing the tweeting noise. I have yet to hear noise during shifting or deceleration. Sounds like that Stealer guy is pretty smart. Good luck to the rest of you.

Mine does it too! Real annoying sometimes.

It seems to appear when I change gears. I am wondering whether it is a broken/loose mounting.

I too had it at the dealers and they thought i was imagining it. Also, they did not drive it and would not want to have a go with me driving it. Oh well.

Maybe it is a feature!

2 times I've fixed other makes that way.

Read all the advice regarding brakes etc. Just had mine in to replace both front calipers, discs, and pads, and I still have the bloody squeek.
I think I'll just give up now as i'm getting quite used to the noise now, and I can't get the top down for all this rain anyway.

Hello,
I'm on my 2nd C70 now, but my first one (2000 2.0t coupe) had this tweet.
It turned out it was the spare wheel squeaking against its polystyrene housing. All I did was wrap the wheel in a rag and the noise disappeared.
Hope this helps!

After some roadtesting, the tweeking in my c70 seems to originate from the seatbelt clip on the driver side (as suggested by nunrgguy - thanks)...

Hi everyone, With the help of a good friend Joop, we have found and got rid of the TWEET. For all those intrested please read on.

Firstly the "tweet" is coming from your front drive shaft splines. These will either be dry or slightly loose. To get rid of the tweet is a simple DIY task.

1. Remove Volvo centre cap from the front wheel

2. Inside
