I purchased a pair of Alpine Sport tire chains for my XC90. The owners manual says to only use one pair on the front tires and not the rear. Anyone know why you can't chain all 4 tires? It must have something to do with the all time 4 wheel drive.....

FWIW, according the the Tire Rack AWD vehicles should have chains on all four tires. Did you ever find out why the manual says only on the front?

No I haven't found out. I called Volvo and they couldn't explain it. They just said follow the manual and only chain the front two.
